Speak to any Chelsea fan out there, they will not deny it, Chelsea have made some debatable transfer decisions over the years. Some have left a real sour taste in the mouths of Chelsea fans around Stamford Bridge following their exit, some players we’ve been glad to see the back of.
For most teams, transfers will never come back to haunt them, your club would simply collect the money, cut all strings and that is that. We’ve seen Schurrle leave, De Bruyne leave only to return to England as one of the most coveted players in the world and even club legend, Petr Cech sold to our nearest rivals. One player, however, that we have missed more than any, is Juan Mata.
The midfielder oozes class on and off the field and it was clear to see from his first Chelsea goal against Norwich we had a classy player that would grace Stamford Bridge, a true joy to watch.

Juan Mata is one of the most loved players amongst Chelsea fans and it was such a shame to see him leave in the way he did. The two-time player of the season deserved more respect and should have been treated better before his departure. If Mourinho wasn’t in charge, would he still be here now? Who knows, maybe, maybe not.
Our midfield this season is lacking severely, we are not creating chances, players are not finding space for that cutting pass, and they’re not contributing with enough goals. Things only seem to click when Willian finds himself standing over a free-kick!

Juan Mata fits the bill for everything our midfield is currently lacking. I am sure I will not be the last Chelsea fan to say it either or wish for the Spaniard to one day, be back at the Bridge in blue. Mata was the catalyst Chelsea needed in the big games. His runs into the box were instinctive and he always found himself in and amongst the goals when it counted, as well as being a threat from dead-ball situations.
This season so far, Mata has scored three Premier League goals, which is two more than Oscar and three more than Eden Hazard. Mata is also ahead in the tallies when it comes to assists. The Spaniard has three to his name, whereas Oscar has none and Hazard and managed to create just the one goal. Finally, another thing Mata is proving he can do much better is keeping the ball. He has a 90% pass completion rate, against Oscar’s 78% and Hazard’s 87%.

Despite having a shaky start in Manchester, Mata is proving his worth in red and if he can reach a level similar to the one we used to see, which he looks close to doing, the Premier League and Manchester United have a very exciting player on their hands.
