Former Barcelona captain Xavi has revealed the one English club he would pick to play for if given the chance. The midfielder, who spent 17 years in Spain with the Catalan giants, now plays for Qatari side Al Sadd at the age of 35. In his prime, he was one of the greatest midfielders of his generation and widely sought after by numerous clubs.

In a recent interview, when asked which Premier League team he would choose to play for Xavi said:
I don’t know, I’ve never thought about it. As I’ve always been a Barcelona person, I never had to think about it. It has always been my top team.
He then went on to add:
To be honest, the Premier League attracts any player. It’s wonderful. The stadiums, the grass, the fans, how they live football. Everything is wonderful.
Despite suggesting the thought to join an English team never crossed his mind, he named Chelsea, Manchester United, Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool as the biggest Premier League clubs. And when pressed to pick a team to play for, he revealed one deciding factor:
A team with history. Either Manchester United or Liverpool. I know that other teams like Man City have emerged more recently, but, Manchester United are my favourite historically speaking.
Since joining Al Sadd from Barcelona, Xavi has made an impressive start to life away from European football. He’s already scored two goals in four games and captains his new side, who sit second in the league with three wins and one draw.
