Chelsea’s club captain John Terry has backed his manager Jose Mourinho, and has said that there’s nobody he’d rather have in charge of the team.
Chelsea have endured a poor start to the season compared to their usual high standards, and this had led to criticism of the players and the manager.
However, Terry, who was recalled to the starting line-up for the 2-0 win over Aston Villa and the 0-0 draw with Dynamo Kiev, insists that the side is still hungry for success and that in Mourinho, they have the greatest manager on the planet leading them.
You don’t win trophies year after year without that hunger in the belly. We are collectively together, the players, the manager and the fans and we will be all right. When the chips are down, I’d take this squad over any. I know the players very well. I’ve been in this situation before, I’ve seen it happen. We’ve got a great squad of players. More importantly we’ve still got the best manager in the world. Everyone’s fully behind him. There are stories and this and that and everything else, but believe me everyone’s together.
Chelsea sit in third place in Champions League Group G and 12th in the Premier League table. The Chelsea skipper admits that everyone at the club is disappointed by the start they’ve made, and that it has dented their confidence, but that it is only a matter of time before they turn their form around:
We are not in a great position, but we are working hard and slowly we will get back to what we had last season. I’m sure that as a team we will improve. Confidence is not high when you are in a position like we are now in the Premier League, but I’m sure we will do better.
