Chelsea’s all-time top goalscorer has backed his former boss, Jose Mourinho to ride the waves at Chelsea and turn the season around.
Speaking to Get West London, Lampard admits he is surprised by Chelsea’s form, claiming you wouldn’t expect it from a team like the Blues. Lampard was a key player for both Mourinho and Chelsea during his career at Stamford Bridge which came to an end in 2014.
Lampard said:
It’s a hot topic because you don’t expect Chelsea to lose games like they’ve been losing recently. These periods do happen, I’ve been involved in them before and the thing that matters is coming out of them the other side
The midfielder was speaking after he picked up his OBE from Buckingham Palace today, he has been rewarded for his services to football. Not only is the midfielder Chelsea’s all-time top goalscorer, he made 106 appearances for England as well as having 627 Premier League appearances to his name.
He went on to speak about the man at the helm, and he was sure he has the tools available to turn the Premier League champions around.
With Jose Mourinho in charge, the squad they’ve got, the talent they’ve got on the pitch and the club that Chelsea is now – I don’t see any way that they won’t turn it around.
Lampard even had time to comment on his OBE:
As a personal achievement goes, this ranks up there with my achievements on the pitch and what I won with Chelsea, and playing for my country. But to receive an award like this among some very special people here, military, people who are doing a lot of good work in charity, it’s very humbling to be here.
