Chelsea midfielder, Nemanja Matic is refusing to believe that Chelsea are in a relegation battle at the bottom of the Premier League, according to the Standard.
Chelsea find themselves in an embarrassing 16th place after only winning three of their opening 12 games in the Premier League. The Champions are only three points off Bournemouth who sit in 18th place. Ironically, the last time Chelsea started a league season in this vein of form, they were relegated.
The Serbian midfielder claims the table is unrealistic. The Blues dropped one place after their 1-0 defeat away to Stoke. Jose Mourinho was absence from the game at the Britannia Stadium and is now under even more pressure to save his job.
Matic said:
I think we deserve more. We are not used to being in this position. But we don’t look at the table because last year when we were champions, we just tried to take it game by game and wait for Manchester City to drop points. The table is not realistic now.
The 27-year-old, however, does believe he and his team-mates did enough on Saturday to warrant a result.
He [Mourinho] prepared for the game in the last couple of training sessions after Dynamo Kiev. We knew what we had to do. We did our job well.
Following the two-week international break, Chelsea will face Norwich at home, who will come into the game off the back of a 1-0 victory at home to Swansea.
