Chelsea target heading to Italy

Chelsea target Jonathan Calleri is close to sealing a transfer from Boca Juniors, but not for Chelsea, to play in Italy for Inter Milan, according to the Daily Star.

The 22-year-old is likely to receive an Italian passport before the January transfer window to enable the move and Mourinho looks to have lost his man.

Boca Juniors’ president Daniel Angelici said:

Calleri’s sale is 99% complete. He will be sold to an English investment fund and he will play in Italy.

Chelsea have become infamous for their elaborate loan system and Calleri seemed likely to follow suit, with Stoke reported to have been a likely destination.

However, Inter Milan have stolen the march over their ex-manager and convinced the striker to join them instead. Inter did not have an available non-EU place in their squad but with Calleri obtaining an Italian passport, the problem has been alleviated.

The Argentine striker had 21 goals in 53 games in 2015 for Boca Juniors, firing them to a league title last month.

It is still unclear whether Calleri will join the Italian giants in the January window or will wait until the summer to link up with his new team-mates.
