Bournemouth manager, Eddie Howe admits today’s meeting between the two sides is a good time to play Chelsea, despite them improving on a poor start to the season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Howe admits Chelsea have improved but from the Bournemouth perspective, it’s a good time to play the Premier League champions.
Chelsea currently sit 14th in the Premier League table and a win today could leapfrog the club over West Brom and move them up to 13th.
Howe said:
It certainly looks like they’re back to their normal selves, in terms of their defensive structures, the way they played against Tottenham [a 0-0 draw], I thought defensively they were excellent. I don’t think you can doubt their attacking quality, then you look at the players they’ve got, you know sooner or later they’re going to score goals.
Bournemouth are only five points behind Chelsea in 18th and a win for today’s visitors would move them just two points behind Jose Mourinho’s side.
He went on to add:
Maybe from that perspective we’re meeting them two or three weeks too late but I think from our perspective we’re meeting them at a good time.
I think we’re in a good place and what we’ve found at this level is if we’re in a good place and we perform, we compete. If we don’t and we’re off our usual selves then these games can be difficult for us. As always when we’re preparing for a game it’s all about us.
Bournemouth come into the game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after a dramatic 3-3 draw at home to Everton. In contrast, Chelsea come into the game off the back of an uneventful 0-0 draw in the London derby against Tottenham last weekend.
