Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has taken to social media to pay tribute to Jose Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea on Thursday afternoon.
Fabregas, who has been underperforming this season, posted a touching message to Mourinho on his official Facebook account. The Spaniard wrote:
Thank you for all you have done for me. I owe you a lot and we will all miss you. Good luck in the future and i know you will be back soon.
The message was followed by a picture of Mourinho and Fabregas celebrating winning the league title, just seven months ago.
Ironically, the midfielder has arguably been one of the reasons Jose Mourinho was sacked by the club on Thursday. Fabregas, along with a number of other stars, have been underperforming since the beginning of the season. His poor form meant he was dropped by Mourinho for important fixtures, including last weeks 2-0 home win against Porto in the Champions League, and Monday’s loss to Leicester in the Premier League, a game in which he came on during the second half.
It was this result, a 2-1 defeat to the Premier League leaders, that sealed Mourinho’s fate, despite the Chelsea board suggesting they would back their manager.

Now Mourinho is gone, it’s up to players like Fabregas, Costa and Hazard to step up and turn this season around. With a number of potential replacements being lined up to take the now vacant job, there is no more room for excuses as players need to prove their worth to a new boss.
This will start on Saturday, as Chelsea host fellow strugglers Sunderland at Stamford Bridge, needing to make a statement to themselves, other teams and most importantly the fans. They need to show that sacking Mourinho was the correct decision, and the only way they can do that is by getting all three points at the weekend.
