Chelsea are reportedly still in pole position to sign Inter Milan midfielder, Marcelo Brozovic despite interest from London rivals, Arsenal.
The 23-year-old is technically on loan at Inter from Dinamo Zagreb, having arrived from the Croatian club on an 18-month loan deal in January. However, included in the move was an obligation for the Serie A club to make the move permanent for around £5 million which they are expected to do in the upcoming window.
Despite this, the Italians may instantly move the Croat on should a high offer come in, which will be aided by a bidding war that looks likely to ensue between the two London clubs.
Jose Mourinho was supposedly a driving force behind Chelsea’s interest and was attracted to Brozovic’s high-energy, box-to-box style, in the hope that he would bring some dynamism to what has been a deeply uninspiring Chelsea midfield so far this season.
However, with the Portuguese manager’s high-profile exit from Stamford Bridge this week, the move has been thrown up in the air and with Arsenal also interested, the Croatian international’s destination now looks more uncertain.
But should interim manager Guus Hiddink still wish to bring Brozovic to West London in January, then it is probable that the former Dinamo Zagreb player will be in a blue shirt in a months time.
