According to Harry Redknapp, Chelsea do not need to look far to find their next manager, in fact, they only need to look to the man with the captain’s armband.
Writing in his column for the Evening Standard, Redknapp says that John Terry is the man who should be given the responsibility to take over from Jose Mourinho next season, as Chelsea look to once again become the dominant force in English and European football.
The 68-year-old, who managed five different clubs in the Premier League, including Tottenham and QPR, thinks that the Chelsea skipper should look to hang up the boots at the end of year and make the transition straight into the dugout.
He said:
John Terry should be given the chance to manage Chelsea next on a permanent basis. He’s a leader of the club, he knows everything about them and although there haven’t been many examples in the past, some players have gone straight into management at a high level.

Redknapp pointed to previous examples of players who’ve made such a transition, although he did point out that he doesn’t think it would be wise for Terry to take on a player/manager role.
Kenny Dalglish did it as a player-manager, although I don’t think John should do it that way. Pep Guardiola did it at Barcelona after a year with their ‘B’ side. Didier Drogba potentially coming in as a coach shows that Roman Abramovich recognises the importance of inside knowledge. John has that in abundance. He might need a few people around him, even Guus Hiddink as an adviser.
