Chelsea cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over League One side Scunthorpe as the Blues secured their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
With his side in the bottom half of the Premier League table, Guus Hiddink recognised the FA Cup as one of Chelsea’s best options to secure European football next term.
Hiddink fielded a strong side and Chelsea were rarely threatened throughout the game by Scunthorpe and took the lead through Diego Costa in the first half. Branislav Ivanovic whipped in a ball from deep and Costa burst through the centre to apply the finishing touch.
The Londoners added to their lead when Ruben Loftus-Cheek latched onto a pull back from Cesar Azpilicueta to smash the ball into the net for his first goal in Chelsea colours.
