Cahill: City win important for Hazard
Chelsea defender Gary Cahill says that the performance of Eden Hazard during the 5-1 FA Cup win over Manchester City was “important” for the Belgian.
Cahill has backed his teammate to recapture the form that saw him voted as the best player in the country last year whilst insisting that his disappointing season so far has been down to a lack of confidence.
Hazard had a direct hand in four goals; scoring once and setting up his teammates on three occasions and was named Man of the Match ahead of the equally-excellent Cesc Fabregas.
Hazard has had a terrible season so far and has been rightly criticised for not playing to his usual high standards. However, in recent weeks, there have been some signs that the Belgian is starting to find his form again and that could be crucial for Chelsea as they look to win both the FA Cup and the Champions League.
Cahill still believes that Hazard is a world-class player and speaking after the game to the official Chelsea website, he said:
It was important for him. Even massive players like Eden sometimes have a dip in confidence but he’s such a good player it’s only a matter of time until he gets back in full flow. He was terrific, just like all the attacking players. In the second half he created a lot of chances and caused them problems. He’s a world-class player. He’s a laid-back guy, he works hard at his game and obviously he’s very important for us.
