Midfielder signs new contract with Chelsea
Ruben Loftus-Cheek has put pen to paper on a new contract with Chelsea that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2021, the club confirmed on the official website earlier today.
The 20-year-old midfielder is highly regarded as one of the best young talents at the club, and has made 13 appearances in all competitions for the Blues after making his debut against Sporting Lisbon in 2014.
Loftus-Cheek, who scored his first goal for the club in the FA Cup win over Scunthorpe, expressed how much signing the new contract means to him.
I’m delighted to sign a new contract at Chelsea and my focus is on working hard in training every day in order to push on and establish myself in the team. It really means a lot because this shows the club believe in me so I’m really happy.
The England Under-21 international is backed immensely by fans and those associated with the club, who are desperate to see the midfielder become a regular in the first team.
Loftus-Cheek, who was promoted into the first-team squad on a permanent basis this time last year, enjoyed huge success whilst making his way through the youth ranks, winning two FA Youth Cups, the Under-21 Premier League and the UEFA Youth League.
Blues boss Guus Hiddink revelaed in his press conference today that he and his staff at the club have analysed how the midfielder plays and have identified areas where he can improve, before adding that he expects Loftus-Cheek to feature in Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures.
The 20-year-old also expressed how he is keen to ‘repay the faith’ the club have shown to him.
The club have done so much for me since I started here as an Under-8 and now I want to repay the faith they’ve shown in me with my performances on the pitch.
Chelsea travel to Norwich City on Tuesday evening.
