Chelsea were officially knocked out of the UEFA Champions League last night after being defeated 2-1 at Stamford Bridge by Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the round of 16.
Some questionable defending allowed Zlatan Ibrahimovic to have the time and space needed to pick out Adrien Rabiot with a swift pass across the box. The Frenchman sent the ball home from point-blank range just 16 minutes into the match.
About 10 minutes later, though, Willian slipped the ball through to Diego Costa on the counterattack. The striker shifted it onto his left foot, leaving Thiago Silva in the dust, before smashing it past Kevin Trapp to equalize. One more goal and the Blues could have been completely level with PSG on aggregate at 3-3. The two sides went into the dressing rooms at half-time with all to play for.
However, shortly after Costa exited the game due to injury in the second half, Ibrahimovic killed off the game by firing home a pinpoint accurate cross that was served in by Angel Di Maria.
Here’s what I took from last night’s disappointing loss as Chelsea exited the Champions League…
