Eden Hazard has called on the Stamford Bridge faithful to stop booing him and reminded the club’s fans of what he has achieved during his time at Chelsea.
The Belgian has endured a difficult season after winning PFA Player of the Year just 12 months ago and has routinely been the source of booing since the departure of Jose Mourinho.
In an interview with the Mirror, Hazard expressed his initial confusion at the criticism he was receiving from fans before claiming he could understand their reasoning.
I thought they were booing because they didn’t want me to be replaced. Supporters pay for their tickets and they want to be entertained. If they are not happy they are entitled to boo. But people mustn’t forget what I have done for Chelsea.
As a result of the abuse the wide-man has received over the course of the season, the 25-year-old has been linked with a move away from West London but dismissed this as ‘nonsense’ and vowed to improve as the season draws to an end.
A lot of nonsense gets talked about my future but I have four years left on my contract. I’ve long told myself that one day I would have a season like the one I’m going through. Chelsea have not had a good season and neither have I. We are working hard to improve.
Monday night could provide Hazard with the perfect opportunity to justify these claims as his side take on Tottenham where he could help to truly end the title hopes of the club’s London rivals.
However, with change afoot over the summer, it remains to be seen whether he will be part of Antonio Conte’s plans – a notorious disciplinarian who may be at odds with Hazard’s sometimes troubling attitude.
