Full backs have been something of a problem position for Chelsea since Ashley Cole left Stamford Bridge.
The void at left back position has never really been filled with a suitable player, Cesar Azpilicueta came in and done well, but Jose Mourinho soon shifted him over to the right side of the defence.
In Mourinho’s second season, Luis came in and failed to settle. This season, we’ve seen Baba Rahman come into the side and he has endured a tough debut season in the Premier League.
Rahman has shown great attacking awareness and there seems to be plenty of potential there for Antonio Conte to work with. At this moment in time, it’s not clear what formation Conte will play.
He could choose a flat back four or go with three at the back and play with attacking wing-backs to press Chelsea’s attack.
Either way, someone needs to play there. Branislav Ivanovic signed a one-year extension earlier in the season, meaning he’ll be around to fill at right-back if need be. So who is on the left?
