Chelsea open Morata talks

Chelsea have reportedly opened talks the possible signing of Alvaro Morata this summer.

As reported by the Telegraph, Chelsea have been left in pole position to sign the Spanish international following Arsenal’s pursuit of Leicester City striker, Jamie Vardy.

The Gunners, who were also thought to be interested in Morata are believed to have activated Vardy’s release clause and looks set to join Arsene Wenger’s side.

The deal is hinged slightly by the fact that the striker could be on the move before joining Chelsea. Real Madrid are looking to activate their buy-back clause in his contract, at around £23m, before selling him on for profit.

Madrid reportedly value the striker at around £40m and both parties are hoping to push a deal through before Spain start their campaign next Monday against the Czech Republic.

Incoming Chelsea boss, Antonio Conte is a huge admirer of the former Madrid striker and was a key part of the deal to bring him to Juventus originally.

Morata had previously admitted he wants his future resolved swiftly:

Hopefully everything will be resolved before then, because it is uncomfortable to be helping your country with phone in hand. My wish is to succeed in Madrid, but Madrid have great players and what I want is to play and feel important. There are some offers from England that are tempting, not only because of the contract. I think my characteristics mean the Premier League would be a great destination.
