Desailly: Terry needs to experience life after Chelsea

Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly has told John Terry that leaving Stamford Bridge would be a great experience for him, according to Sky Sports.

The Chelsea captain looked set to leave the club this summer before accepting a new one-year deal offered by new boss Antonio Conte.

And whilst the former Blue accepts that Terry’s decision to stay for another year is beneficial for the team with a new manager coming in, he has urged to Chelsea skipper to experience life away from the Bridge.

Desailly told Press Association Sport:

He is still a leader and maybe Conte met him and realised that John is still ready to sacrifice everything for the club. John doesn’t have to be first choice but keeping him is good for the continuity of the team. So I am very happy for him but it would have been food for him to experience something else. I know from my own experience that it’s good on a personal level and for your family.

The Frenchman moved to Qatari side Al-Gharafe in 2004 after leaving Stamford Bridge and captained them to the Qatari League title in 2005.

And he believes Terry would benefit from a similar move next summer.

My message to him would be that it’s great to experience another country, another life. I was talking to [former Real Madrid striker] Raul about it recently and he said [moving to the US] was good for him and the kids.
