Chelsea look set to snap up French international N’Golo Kante, with reports coming from The Telegraph suggesting that the player will turn down a new contract offer from newly crowned Premier League champions Leicester City, in order to work under Antonio Conte.
He is also set to snub the interests of Manchester United and Arsenal in pursuit of a summer move to Stamford Bridge.
As a result of Kante’s stellar season at the heart of Leicester City’s Premier League winning midfield, he has reportedly been offered a new £100k a week contract in order to try and keep him at the King Power stadium.
But despite this, Kante looks set to bank in on the copious amounts of interest in his services by joining Conte in West London.
Although he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of other destinations such as Arsenal, Juventus or Manchester United.
Kante is the preferred alternative to combative Belgium midfielder Radja Nainggolan, who has been the subject of two failed bids from Chelsea over the course of the summer.
Chelsea will want to try and wrap up negotiations as quickly as they can, in order to prevent a potential costly bidding war between them and the numerous other interested clubs.
Because despite having a reported £20million buy-out clause in his contract, Leicester also have the option to accept the highest bidder over the release clause. It’s for this reason that Arsenal are yet to have formally registered their interest in Kante with an offer.
Kante and Conte may potentially meet each other in the semi-finals of the European Championship, as France look to book a meeting with Italy by beating minnows Iceland, whilst Conte’s Italy will have to overcome world champions Germany in Bordeaux this weekend, and negotiations may well start over in France.
