Batshuayi outlines Chelsea ambitions

New Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi has outlined his desire to help his new club return to the Champions League after a disappointing campaign last time out.

The Belgian became Antonio Conte’s first signing when he put pen to paper on a deal last Sunday and is excited to hit the ground running for the Blues.

Speaking to Chelsea TV following his £33million move to Stamford Bridge, the Belgium international spoke of the importance of firing Chelsea back to the summit of the Premier League.

It’s very important because Chelsea deserve to be at the top of the league and to play in the Champions League. I’m going to do everything I can so that they do.

The 22-year-old was on the receiving end of Conte’s tactics and playing style when his side suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Italy in their opening Euro 2016 fixture.

But that did not dampen Batshuayi’s spirits when he sang the praises of his new boss and also spoke of his own versatility as a player.

I’m a versatile player, I’m a technical player and I play with my head but I can progress further. He’s [Conte is] a manager I’ve been told works hard and likes people to work hard so he’s a good manager and I’m pleased to come here and join him at Chelsea.

Batshuayi will wear the number 23 shirt for the Blues next season, also worn by the legend that is Carlo Cudicini, but rather than saving goals, Blues fans will be hoping the new man can stick at least 23 goals in at the other end of the pitch.
