Chelsea left-back Cesar Azpilicueta has urged Antonio Conte to employ his understanding of different formations to the side this season.
According to the Evening Standard, the Spaniard believes Conte will need to be ‘flexible’ with his formations in the Premier League in order to mount a challenge for the title this season.
The Italian took charge of his final pre-season game against Werder Bremen on Sunday in a 4-2 victory and has used a number of different formations in his preparations for the 2016/17 campaign.
And Azpilicueta believes Conte will need to take a similar approach into the Premier League.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:
It’s important to be flexible in terms of formation. Every time the manager tries the best solution so we, the players, have to be ready to adapt to play in every system. The target is always the same, to beat the opponent, and with the different formations we can play we always have the ability to do that.
Chelsea kicked off their woeful 2015/16 campaign with a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Swansea, but Azpilicueta says he and the team are determined to put things right this time around.
We will try to get as close as possible to perfection as we can, even if it’s hard. We are ready for work for that, we have a good few more days of training before the season starts, the games are finished, and now it’s time to focus on West Ham.
