It’s a dream start for Antonio Conte, as his Chelsea side have now picked up three wins in as many league matches to start the season after defeating Burnley, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
It was Chelsea’s first clean sheet in Premier League play since drawing against Tottenham on 29th November of last season.
Chelsea got off to an electric start and largely kept that pace for 95 percent of the match. Eden Hazard got the scoring started in the 9th minute, making a beautiful run before sliding a low, curling shot around the defence and into the far-side netting.
As the first half wore on, it was beginning to draw similar comparisons to Chelsea’s season opener against West Ham – dominating play but not doing enough to put away the opposition. Willian made sure to not let Burnley sneak back into it, smashing a powerful shot past Tom Heaton in the 41st minute.
The second half was much like the first half, and Chelsea were able to grab a third goal in the 89th minute after all the front three – Hazard, Willian and Diego Costa – were replaced. The substitutes – Pedro, Victor Moses and Michy Batshuayi – were all involved in the goal, with Batshuayi getting fouled in Chelsea’s half. After Mark Clattenburg played the advantage, Nemanja Matic found Pedro out left, and the Spaniard played in an early cross that Moses was able to get on the end of.
Chelsea will not play again until 11th September due to the international break. Here’s what we learnt from Saturday’s match.
