Chelsea target Niklas Sule confirms Premier League interest

Germany prospect and Chelsea target Niklas Sule has revealed that he turned down offers from several European heavyweights – including the likes of Napoli, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool.

The Hoffenheim centre-back enjoyed a fantastic 2015-16 season and his performances at the Rio 2016 Olympics only further increased his burgeoning reputation.

According to German outlet Sport Bild (h/t Dipesh Agarwal of Sport Witness), the Hoffenheim star said: “I need familiar surroundings and need to constantly play at my level to develop even further.” Therefore hinting that first team football was a priority for him, over a big money move to Chelsea.

Sule’s agent Karlheinz Forster meanwhile confirmed that Chelsea showed interest during the previous transfer window : “Yes, there was interest.” Whilst he retained the fact that the interest from English clubs will remain valid next season : “The English have made it clear that their interest will remain valid next year.”

The 21-year-old is a powerful domineering centre-back, who also has an eye for a pass – which has seen him likened to Bayern Munich defender Mats Hummels. Although his ever increasing price may not be worth the risk considering the undisputed talent of Borussia Mönchengladbach loanee Andreas Christensen – who won the clubs player of the season ahead of new Arsenal signing Granit Xhaka last year.
