Cesc Fabregas produced a sublime performance upon his return to the Chelsea team, as the Blues came from two goals down to beat Leicester City and progress into the fourth round of the EFL Cup.
Chelsea started the game really poorly, and they found themselves a goal down after 17 minutes – as Shinji Okazaki capitalised on the hesitant keeping of Asmir Begovic, to loop a header into the net.
More poor defending was soon to follow however and as Marcos Alonso came out to close down the ball, the bright Okazaki nicked into the vacant space before seeing his shot loop over Begovic via a David Luiz deflection.
But just before the referee blew for half-time Gary Cahill nodded home from a Fabregas corner to perhaps undeservedly half the deficit.
The second-half brought about a far more adventurous Chelsea side, with both Moses and Pedro causing havoc. But it was to be the most unlikely of goalscorers who would bring Chelsea level – as Cesar Azpilicueta struck home a sensational 25-yard volley.
Chelsea could’ve had the game wrapped up in the regular 90 minutes, as Diego Costa, a second-half substitute, spurned several golden opportunities for the Blues.
The game was soon settled in extra-time – as two fantastic Fabregas goals gave Chelsea an unassailable 4-2 lead. The first of which was a glorious team goal, whilst Fabregas’ second saw him lash a shot home, before running the length of the pitch to go and celebrate with the delirious Chelsea away support.
