Conte liked what he saw against Hull

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was full of praise for his side’s performance after Saturday afternoon’s 2-0 victory away to Hull City.

The Italian reverted back to his favoured 3-5-2 formation following two successive defeats in the Premier League and saw his side keep a clean sheet for only the second time this season.

Whilst there were a few teething problems in the opening 20 minutes, during which Thibaut Courtois produced an excellent save to keep the game level, Chelsea eventually ran out comfortable 2-0 winners at the KCOM Stadium.

And according to Chelsea’s official website, Conte was very happy with how his team played.

I saw a lot of things that I like to see. We work to put pressure to win the ball quickly, to try to play football, to put high pressure. I like this, but to do this we need a bit of time and we must change the habit of the past. The mentality is important. The work is good and we must continue.

The Chelsea boss spoke of the importance of keeping a clean sheet after conceding 15 goals in nine matches this season in all competitions and emphasised how the squad needs to keep working together to improve.

Now we have another solution, another tactical system. It depends on the game and the opponent, but I think it’s a good way and in this game I’m very happy for the players because when you finish with a clean sheet after you concede two and three goals in the last four games, it is important to find more confidence.

He continued:

Now I think we must continue to work. We know that to change the past we need to work a lot, together, and to understand there is a road to improve.

Conte was particularly impressed with how Victor Moses adapted his game to play as a wing-back in a man-of-the-match display from the Nigerian, but admitted there is room for improvement in Marcos Alonso’s game despite a solid performance from the Spaniard.

Moses played an incredible game in defensive and offensive situations. It is fantastic because he is working very hard. He deserved to play and he showed me that my choice was right. Pedro can also play in the same way to give you the opportunity to exploit one-v-one.

Alonso played in this role at Fiorentina. This was his first Premier League start, but in the same way as the other players he must work. He played a good game but he can improve.
