Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham has been setting the Championship alight this season on loan at Bristol City, and is currently the league’s top scorer with 11 goals.
It was no surprise, then, when he was named in the England Under-21 squad, for the first time, for their upcoming European qualifying fixtures against Kazakhstan and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
However, the way the striker found out took him by surprise. According to the Bristol Post, Abraham had no idea about his inclusion in the squad until Sky Sports News reported it.

Abraham said:
I heard it first on Sky Sports News and I was buzzing. I was just sitting there and I heard it. I had this big smile on my face, I was so excited. Gareth Southgate and Aidy Boothroyd get together and are responsible for picking the squad, but I didn’t know anything about it until I heard it on TV.
Though the Chelsea loanee may have been surprised by the news, Bristol City boss Lee Johnson was not, and had been encouraging Abraham that he would get the call-up, the striker revealed.
The gaffer had been telling me that I would get the call-up one day, so I just kept going and kept believing. Now it’s come, I’m happy to get the opportunity. Hopefully I’ll get some minutes on the field, but just going there is a great experience for me. To be named in the squad along with a few other boys from Chelsea gives me a good feeling about myself.

Nathaniel Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lewis Baker have all be called up alongside Abraham for England’s next set of Under-21 qualifiers, and it tops what was a brilliant week for the striker.
After scoring his 11th of the season, Abraham celebrated his 19th birthday and was named as the Championship’s Player of the Month, as well as earning his Under-21 call-up.
