Roman Abramovich is ready to bankroll a world-record bid for Juventus defender, Leonardo Bonucci.
As reported by the Telegraph, Chelsea could face competition from Manchester City, with both clubs failing with bids for the Italian during the summer.
Abramovich is ready to pay upwards of £60million for the defender who impressed so many during this summer’s Euros. The Blues will try to land the defender in January, but could be forced to wait until the summer to complete any potential deal.
The £60million would surpass the £50million that Paris Saint-Germain paid for David Luiz when Chelsea originally sold him.
Abramovich will be forced to pay over the odds to try and persuade the Italian to move to Stamford Bridge with no Champions League football to offer.
Chelsea chased the Italian but failed to land him, leaving them to re-sign Luiz on deadline day.
Antonio Conte worked with the defender during his time at Juventus but also whilst as Italy manager.
