Dear Cesc Fabregas,
If we’re being honest here, I was a little dubious when it was confirmed that Chelsea had agreed on a deal to bring you to Stamford Bridge back in 2014. A number of questions were springing through my mind: Why are Barcelona letting him go? How do we feel about signing a former Arsenal hero?
I pondered my thoughts and still couldn’t decide how I felt about the whole thing, then as soon as the deal was done, quotes from the past were beginning to emerge online about your lack of desire to play for Chelsea, this didn’t help my feelings, that’s for sure.
But the more I thought about it, the more I warmed to the idea. It was abundantly clear we’re still signing a fantastically talented player. If we have aims of winning this league, we need a player of your calibre and the possibility of a partnership emerging between yourself and Diego Costa was mouth-watering. By this point, Arsenal fans were really not happy, you probably knew that, but that helped sway my judgement like it probably did with every other Chelsea fan.
A strong pre-season, which included a delightful free-kick, showed what was to come from you and I was excited about the new season. Our transfers were good, our pre-season, on the whole, was good. This felt like it could be our year.
As soon as the season got underway, my word was it clear we have one of the best passers in world football in our team. Everything our team had missed last season, you possessed. That pass against Burnley? Simply sublime.

The season went on and your form was exceptional in all competitions, you soon became a crucial player, I’d go as far as saying undroppable.
There were times throughout the season where I still couldn’t quite believe we’d manage to sign you, I found myself saying in my head: “Cesc Fabregas actually plays for Chelsea?” I don’t know why I found it so hard to get my head around, but I was glad you were there
If it wasn’t for you, and the sensational form of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa’s goals, we wouldn’t have won the league that season. You helped take the team to a new level.
As well as that, you provided us with one of the greatest chants of the last decade, by far. Seeing you lift the Premier League trophy was a joy, I honestly couldn’t think of a more deserving player.

Then we head into the new season. 2015-16 was a tough one for everyone involved in the club. Let’s face it, nothing went to plan. Rumours of unrest between yourself and the manager were all over the papers. It just didn’t seem right?
Jose Mourinho specifically brought you into the team to help win the league, why would his view on you change so quickly? It didn’t believe it, personally, it just didn’t sit right with me.
During your time at the club, you’ve brought into everything playing for Chelsea is about and you’ve soon become a fan favourite.

It was a tough season for you specifically, that was clear. Whatever really happened amongst the squad, I guess only the players and the staff will only ever know but none the less, everyone has to move on and look to the future.
Your form throughout the second half of last season was again, tremendous and really saved our season from further embarrassment. Despite all of this, people still questioned your desire and will to play for this club?

I think this was something you were always going to have to deal with after previously playing for Arsenal, so many keyboard warriors will see this as an open invitation to point any sense of anger at you at any given opportunity.
Anyways, fast forward to the season under Antonio Conte. Yet more rumours about your place, not only within the team but the squad. Personally, I don’t want to see you leave, despite the rumours around your future. I feel there is a role to play for you still at Chelsea.
However, if January or the summer is the end of the road for you at Stamford Bridge, I wanted to say thank you. Thank you for the way you have made yourself a hero at Chelsea, a fan favourite, a title winner.
Your efforts have not gone unnoitced likewise they have always been appreciated. You’d be missed that’s for sure!
