Chelsea look set to join Liverpool and Valencia in pursuit of Porto youngster Ruben Neves – as they look to bolster their midfield.
The Blues are reportedly willing to offer £24million plus a player in exchange for the Portugal international – although add-ons could see that figure rise to somewhere in the region of £35million, according to the Mirror.
Italian Champions Juventus are also said to be interested in Neves – following his meteoric rise to stardom, and they’re somewhat depleted midfield options would very much benefit from Neves’ services.
The departures of Paul Pogba, Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal, as well as Claudio Marchisio’s long rehabilitation process, have all contributed towards Juventus’ inquiry into Neves’ availability.
Despite their interest, however, Chelsea reportedly lead the race for the 19-year-olds signature – as Chelsea look for possible replacements for John Obi-Mikel and protracted Juventus target, Nemanja Matic.
Neves’ play style is not too dissimilar to current Blues midfielder N’Golo Kante, who is heralded for his excellent distribution and pressing of opposition players. Neves has made two appearances for the senior Portuguese national team, and since his debut in 2014 he has made 79 appearances for Porto, scoring three times. Neves has also picked up the Confederação do Desporto de Portugal – Young Prospect of the Year award in 2015.
