Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante told the club’s official website that he is excited to push further forward as part of his new role in Antonio Conte’s new 3-4-3 formation – which the Italian has deployed in recent weeks.
The French international put in a man of the match performance against former club Leicester City last Saturday – with Kante contributing further up the field, striding forward purposefully before spraying the ball out wide, whilst also coming close to scoring late in the second-half.
Kante now believes that having been set free from his defensive shackles, Chelsea have benefited at the back. The club have now kept back to back clean sheets for the first time this season. As a result of the change in formation, Chelsea seem to have buried the hatchet over their early season anxiety in defence.
The new system is working well, we have been better with and without the ball, and we have conceded fewer chances. Personally, I like the system too. My job in a defensive central midfield position is to cut off attacks against us, but it has been a bit different in the past two games as I have been able to get forward a bit myself.
Kante also had this to say upon facing his former employers – with whom he won a historic Premier League title with.
I had a formidable season at Leicester and so it was a special match for me. Before the game, I spoke to my old teammates, but I am a Chelsea player now. Once it started it was just another game. I wanted to help my team get the three points. That’s what we did.
