Conte to assess title credentials after Christmas

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will assess whether his side are serious contenders for the Premier League title after Christmas, the Independent reports.

The Italian has seen the Blues reap the rewards of his 3-4-3 system, picking up four straight league victories since he changed the formation following consecutive defeats to Arsenal and Liverpool.  Chelsea have since seen off Hull, Leicester, Manchester United and Southampton in convincing fashion, scoring 11 goals and keeping four clean sheets in the process.

The pressure to keep pace with joint Premier League leaders Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool was on the Blues, after all three picked up away victories on Saturday.

Chelsea kept their nerve, however, and moved to within one point of the trio by inflicting Southampton’s first defeat at home since February.

But Conte is refusing to get carried away with the Blues’ current run of form, and believes he will be in a better position to talk about Chelsea’s title chances after the festive period.

In this moment it’s not important to look at the table. If you ask me a prediction of our championship now, it’s very difficult to talk about.

Now we must continue in this way. To stay close to first place is good, and gives us great confidence. I think game by game. I’m seeing a lot of positive things.

Many games must pass before you can see whether you can fight for the title. Then you can see if you can stay up there in the title race. When you start the second part of the season, our ideas will be clearer.

Chelsea will be looking to make it five consecutive victories and clean sheets on Saturday, when they host Everton at Stamford Bridge.
