Antonio Conte has urged his players to believe in their abilities following Saturday’s 5-0 victory over Everton, according to Chelsea’s official website.
The Blues romped home to a comfortable victory to move to the summit of the Premier League on Saturday evening, before Liverpool climbed above Conte’s men following a 6-1 win over Watford on Sunday.
And despite Conte’s request to assess Chelsea’s title chances in the New Year, he has urged his players to have self-belief that they are good enough to win the league following their performance against Everton.
I know we played a fantastic game and I’m pleased for my players. When you have this type of game you can continue to work very hard and show what we work on in the training sessions.
It’s important to continue to work. For us, it was very important to win and win in this way, playing very well.
Now it is important to look at ourselves, not at the others and think we can do this or this. It’s important to improve and to work together. Then we can see in the future what happens.
Chelsea are on a run of five consecutive league victories since Conte switched to a 3-4-3 formation, scoring 16 goals and conceding none in the process.
The Blues now sit second in the league going into the international break, and Conte revealed he’ll be taking some well deserved rest in Italy, before focusing on maintaining Chelsea’s brilliant run of form.
It’s important for me to have a bit of rest because my first period at Chelsea was very intensive and it’s important to have a bit of rest and then to be ready to restart.
The Everton game is now the past. It’s important to think and be concentrated, and to restart in the right way after the international break.
The Blues face an away trip to Middlesbrough after the international break, before hosting Tottenham the following weekend.
