Diego Costa has withdrawn from international duty with the Spanish national side due to a calf injury that he sustained during the recent 5-0 hammering of Everton.

The 28-year-old will be replaced in the squad by former Liverpool forward Iago Aspas and as such, he won’t take part in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Macedonia or Tuesday’s friendly against England at Wembley.

There is no word yet on the severity of the injury that Costa has suffered but it’s reasonable to think that he might be a doubt for the trip to Middlesbrough in ten days time.
Costa has been in fantastic form for the Blues all season and has scored nine goals in the league, making him the top scorer in the division through 11 games.
Antonio Conte will be hoping that the extended rest between now and the ‘Boro game will be enough for the muscle to heal.
