Chelsea are the latest Premier League club to take a strong interest in Southampton central defender Virgil van Dijk, The Times have reported.
The Netherlands international has been in fine form and has stood out in Saints’ side, with many believing that he is their player of the season so far.
It’ll take a hefty fee to prise van Dijk away from Claude Puel’s grasp in January, with all of those at St Mary’s keen to keep hold of the Dutchman until next summer at the very least.

Antonio Conte is looking to bolster his defensive reinforcements in the near future and it’s fair to say that van Dijk would add a lot of quality to the Chelsea back line.
The 25-year-old has all the attributes to be a perfect fit in The Blues’ back three, with a wide range of technical ability, composure on the ball and physical prowess.
Van Dijk would cost a lot in January but would almost certainly bolster Chelsea’s title chase further.
