Cesc Fabregas grabbed the decisive goal, as Chelsea recorded their 10th consecutive win, with a 1-0 victory over Sunderland.
Fabregas broke the deadlock and Sunderland’s stubborn resistance on 40 minutes, as he swept home from the edge of the box, after a Willian pull back.
The result has now put Antonio Conte’s men six points clear at the top of the Premier League table, a far cry away from the mess they found themselves in just a number of months ago.
The impressive English goalkeeper Jordan Pickford denied both Marcos Alonso, a former Sunderland player, and Willian from increasing their lead.
Although Sunderland had few opportunities in the game, due to their insistence on attempting to nullify Chelsea’s attacking threat.
They came within inches of snatching a much-needed point at the Stadium of Light – Thibaut Courtois pulled off a superb right-handed save right at the death to deny former Chelsea academy prospect Patrick van Aanholt.
