Chelsea’s central midfield has been a settled group, for the most part, this season with N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic as Antonio Conte’s preferred tandem with Cesc Fabregas featuring now and again, but they’re reportedly targeting an addition to that midfield group.
Atalanta star Franck Kessie is alleged to be on Chelsea’s radar ahead of a summer move and the Ivorian midfielder says he’s flattered to receive interest from such a big club.
“This [interest from Chelsea] proves that I’m having a good season, that I continue to progress. I don’t want to go too fast,” Kessie is quoted as saying by the London Evening Standard.
Conte’s side made an enquiry to sign the 20-year-old in January but Kessie says he doesn’t know if any official offer was made and he’ll wait and see if any transfer talks come about.
“I don’t know if my club has received any offers. I’m under contract. We’ll see if we need to discuss anything.
Also targeted by Roma, Kessie has netted seven goals in 20 appearances in all competitions this season and says he’s enjoying life in the city of Bergamo.
“I like Bergamo. The city is nice, quiet, and I appreciate life in Italy, where I was well received.”
