Chelsea legend Kerry Dixon believes that current striker Diego Costa can become a legend himself if he chooses to finish his career at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to Standard Sport, Dixon said,
I think he’s a legend. The term is banded around very easily. Diego has had a couple of decent seasons.
Costa arrived in the summer of 2014 after a season at Atletico Madrid where he truly made a name for himself. The Spaniard’s 20 goals during his debut campaign spurred Chelsea onto their fourth Premier League title the following spring.
Aside from his goalscoring ability, Costa’s tough (and sometimes controversial) attitude on the pitch has made him a favourite amongst the club’s supporters.

However, according to Dixon, the striker still has some work to do before achieving legendary status.
You have to serve your time and prove yourself to the fans and be consistent over the years. You don’t come here for two or three years and become a legend. He’s a wonderful player. I hope he does go on and achieve legendary status at the club by staying and seeing out his career [at Chelsea].
Costa is not the only player that Dixon can see becoming a Chelsea legend someday.
They are having a wonderful season, and Hazard is a great player. I think he’s got a little bit [more] to do still.

However, Dixon noted that a lot must be done to be grouped with the likes of certain Chelsea legends, and becoming one is not easy.
Over the years Chelsea have had some wonderful players come and grace the turf. Legendary status is for fans to decide.
The legends are the likes of Lampard, Terry, and Drogba. They stood the test of time and became part of the family.
These players [Costa and Hazard] are on their way, but time will tell.
Costa’s 16 Premier League goals in 24 appearances so far this season prove that the striker has been on top form, and he will be looking to add more to his tally on Monday night when Chelsea travel to the London Stadium to face West Ham United.
