With John Terry’s future very much up in the air right now, Chelsea could be short of a centre-back next season which may be troublesome if they suffer a couple of injuries.
Having spent £30m to bring David Luiz back from PSG last summer, Antonio Conte plotted another move for a Parisien defender as the Express claim Chelsea have offered £52m to sign Marquinhos from the Ligue 1 champions last summer.
Manchester United and Barcelona are both interested in signing the Brazilian international who can play at both centre-back and right-back. Marquinhos is under contract until 2019 but could be on the move at the end of the season.
Speaking to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, his agent, Giuliano Bertolucci has confirmed the French club never had any intentions of selling the defender.
“The president of PSG never wanted to negotiate a transfer, neither with Barca nor with anyone,” he is quoted as saying.
“Last summer there was a €60million (£52m) proposal for Marquinhos and he rejected it.”
Whether Chelsea chose to come back in for the defender remains to be seen, but it’s clear they’re very keen.
