Chelsea saw a £57m bid turned down by Everton last summer for Romelu Lukaku and the London Evening Standard suggest that the Blues will need to significantly up that offer if they wish to re-sign the Belgian.
When Liverpool sold Luis Suarez to Barcelona for £65m in 2014 that was the highest fee ever received by a Premier League club for an out-an-out striker.
If Antonio Conte is serious about bringing Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge three years after he left on a permanent basis to join Everton in a £30m deal following a successful loan, then Chelsea would have to pay more than the figure Barcelona shelled out for Suarez, setting a new record sale fee.
The 23-year-old is the top scorer in the Premier League this season with 19 goals but failed to make an impact at Chelsea following his £12m move to the club in 2011 from Anderlecht, failing to score in 15 appearances for the club.
Lukaku impressed out on loan initially with West Brom and later with Everton who stumped up a club-record fee to sign him in 2014.
Everton have been rocked by Lukaku’s claims that he will not sign a new contract with the club with his current deal expiring in 2019, with Chelsea growing increasingly confident they can secure his services for a second time.
