N’Golo Kanté has been pivotal to Chelsea’s rampant title charge this year, and the praise for the French midfielder’s influential performances has been increasingly apparent as we edge closer towards the end of the season.
Blues legend Frank Lampard is one of many who have acknowledged the effect of Kanté on this Chelsea team, and the incredibly strong balance that he brings to the Chelsea midfield.
Lampard labelled the Frenchman as currently the “best midfielder in the world”, when speaking to the BBC after the 1-0 FA Cup quarter-final win against Manchester United. Fittingly, Kante was the scorer of the only goal that night.
I’d go as far to say that he’s the best central midfield player in the world on current form, I really would.
I’d sort of compared him in my head to Makelele last year, and when he came to Chelsea I thought, ‘Here’s their Makelele,’ but he’s got even more to his game.
The enigmatic midfielder has played every minute of the 27 Premier League games he’s been available for this season, only missing one due to suspension against Bournemouth.
If Chelsea hold their firm grip at the top of the table, Kanté will become the first ever player to win consecutive Premier League titles at two different clubs. No team in Chelsea’s current position have ever failed to win the title.
Some may argue he is undoubtedly the player of the season so far, and if he continues to perform to the world class level he is currently consistently showing, few can argue with that claim.
