Chelsea are still some way from completing any prospective deal for Roma left-back Emerson Palmieri, the player’s agent has revealed, with the London club still not having made direct contact.
The Daily Mail reported last month that Palmieri had been identified as a potential target by Antonio Conte, as the club look for another left sided wing-back to compete with Marcos Alonso next season – although the details of the chase were not revealed.
Speaking to Calcio Mercato, Fernando Garcia (Palmieri’s agent) said that “with Chelsea we have nothing concrete, only middlemen contacts.”
Arriving in the Italian capital from Brazilian side Santos in the summer, Palmieri has impressed a number of top sides across the continent, including Atlético Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. He has even drawn attention from the FIGC (Italian Football Federation), due to his Italian passport and potential Italy national side credentials.
Roma only signed Palmieri for €2million (£1.6million) in December, but Roma would certainly demand a much larger fee after his impressive debut season in Europe.
