Tottenham’s late victory at Crystal Palace has kept the Premier League title race well and truly alive. Chelsea now travel to Goodison Park to take on a youthful Everton side, in a notoriously difficult fixture for the Blues over recent years.
Diego Costa scored twice on Tuesday night as Chelsea beat Southampton 4-2 at Stamford Bridge, whilst Gary Cahill and Eden Hazard also got on the scoresheet. A 78th minute Christian Eriksen strike did, however, cut the lead at the top back to four points.
Everton’s last game was against West Ham, where they played out a draw in East London, as Romelu Lukaku failed to score his fourth goal in three games. Whilst Lukaku’s away form has been patchy, he will be relishing the chance to score in his 11th consecutive home game against the side touted with a summer move for him – despite having failed to score in all five of his previous Premier League encounters against former club Chelsea.
Leighton Baines is set to make his 350th appearance for Everton, while Enner Valencia is available again after being ineligible for the game against parent club West Ham. Ramiro Funes Mori, Seamus Coleman and Aaron Lennon all remain out through injury. Chelsea meanwhile have a fully fit squad going into Sunday’s clash.
