Kenneth Omeruo ready to leave Chelsea this summer

Kenneth Omeruo ready to leave Chelsea this summer

When Chelsea signed a talented young defender by the name of Kenneth Omeruo in January 2012, many thought that he could one day become a first-team regular at the club.

Fast-forward five years and Omeruo is ready to call time on his Chelsea career having failed to make a single first-team appearance since signing.

Omeruo has told the BBC that paying for Chelsea is no longer his “immediate priority” and he will seek a permanent transfer from Stamford Bridge when the summer window opens at the end of the season.

“It might happen that I get to play for Chelsea but it is no longer my immediate priority. You have no idea how frustrating it is to always go out on loan.

“My priority is to play at the top, to find a place where I get to play regularly. Next season will be interesting because I’m looking to be in one of the top leagues, so we’ll see what happens.”

The 23-year-old has spent the majority of the last five-and-a-half-years out on loan across Europe with Ado Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Kasimpasa and Alanyaspor.

Capped 33 times by Nigeria, Omeruo signed a contract extension with Chelsea last summer running until 2019 but it’s clear that he wants his long-term future resolved this summer and it remains to be seen whether it’s at Chelsea or elsewhere.
