Ajax has always been a terrific breeding ground for some of football’s greatest talents through the years and this summer there could be another max exodus.
One of their top prospects is defender Davinson Sanchez who has caught the eye of many clubs following his €5m transfer last summer from Colombian side Atletico Nacional de Medellin.
According to Spanish football paper Mundo Deportivo Barcelona were quoted €25m for the player by sporting director Marc Overmars, but fresh interest from both Chelsea and Bayern Munich could see that asking price skyrocket to nearer €40m.
Sanchez has made 43 appearances for Ajax this season across all competitions, scoring five goals and has played an integral part of the Eredivisie side’s run to the Europa League.
Having earned his first Colombia cap back in November, Sanchez is primed for a big-money move in European football where he can continue to develop into one of the game’s finest young centre-backs.
Chelsea will likely enter the market for a centre-back in the summer with Kurt Zouma likely to leave on loan and John Terry’s contract coming to an end, and Sanchez would be a great developmental option in Antonio Conte’s back three.
