In a interview with ESPN Brazil, Chelsea vice-captain Gary Cahill revealed why he doesn’t use social media much.
Cahill has stepped in as Chelsea’s captain this season with John Terry dropping to the bench, leading the Blues to the top of the Premier League. In the interview he talked about how he felt captaining the team and the inevitability of winning another trophy at the end of the season.
This season I’ve enjoyed the responsibility…. we’ve set goals and things that drive you, things to keep you going.
There’s been many things this season, new formation, new style of play. We adapted here, they handed me the responsibility to be the captain for the majority of the season.
I look at the top players. I look at the top players in the world. I look at the top defenders, you know, Ramos, Pique, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, this calibre of player.
When you look at it, they win titles. And the majority of them, not only one title. They’ve won it again and again. So that’s the will that drives me. I’ve managed to win everything once. I want to be one to do it again.
He also spoke about how he has an impressive goal scoring tally this season for a defender in the Premier League.
Obviously everyone always enjoys scoring goals. I work on that. And I’ve managed to score a lot of goals in my career. So it’s something I’m proud of.
Finally, he spoke about why he doesn’t post much on social media and tends to stay quite quiet on social media sites.
It’s something that I’ve chosen a little bit as well. Because I feel I’ve got enough attention as it is. Good or bad.
Cahill will now look to help his side secure the Premier League title officially tomorrow evening as they take the trip to the Hawthorns, where they will play eighth placed West Brom.
