Michy Batshuayi to be used as a makeweight for Romelu Lukaku

Michy Batshuayi to be used as a makeweight for Romelu Lukaku

Despite scoring the goal which secured Chelsea their fifth Premier League title, Michy Batshuayi’s future at the club remains uncertain.

The £33m arrival from Marseille last summer has yet to start a Premier League game for the club and has netted just two Premier League goals to date – not quite the return the club were hoping for.

Still only 23, Chelsea are mulling their options over what to do with Batshuayi in the summer, but have made their interest in Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez known to their respective parties.

Should Chelsea secure one or both of the above targets, then Batshuayi will be expected to be offloaded either on loan or on a permanent sale, but if Chelsea aren’t fortunate enough to land Lukaku or Sanchez, then the door remains open for the Belgian to work his way into a more prominent role in the side next season.

Antonio Conte has also not denied the possibility that Batshuayi could be used as a makeweight in some of Chelsea’s more expensive transfer deals.

Everton would need a new striker if Lukaku was to return to Stamford Bridge and it makes perfect sense for Batshuayi to go the other way, while Monaco, who have been linked with the striker, could take him as part of a deal that sees either Tiemoue Bakayoko or Thomas Lemar sign for Chelsea.

West Ham remain interested in signing Batshuayi should he become available as well, but it’s anyone’s guess as to what the Blues decide to do with their title-winning striker.
