Chelsea winger Christian Atsu has completed a permanent transfer to newly-promoted Newcastle, the north east club have confirmed.
The Ghanaian winger has spent the entire 2016/17 season on loan with Newcastle, playing an integral part in their title-winning campaign in the Championship netting five goals in 32 appearances.
Atsu’s loan deal included a purchasing option believed to be in the region of £6.2m which the Magpies have activated, signing him to a four-year contract subject to a work-permit hearing.
Chelsea signed the 25-year-old from Porto for £2.5m in August 2013 but immediately sent him out on loan to Vitesse Arnhem.
Over the next two seasons, Atsu spent time on loan with Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga before joining Newcastle last summer.
In his four years with Chelsea, Atsu failed to make a single first-team appearance for the club and Antonio Conte clearly feels it’s the right move to allow the winger to leave on a permanent basis.
