The 2016/2017 season has been an outstanding one for Chelsea. After the horror show that was last season, Antonio Conte has guided his side to a Premier League title in his first season.
This could soon be added to with another FA Cup trophy if Chelsea beat local rivals Arsenal on Saturday 27th May at Wembley. Nevertheless, even if Chelsea fail to complete a second Premier League & FA Cup title in the last ten years this season will have been a qualified success.
Integral to this success has been the Blues’ midfield. Conte has chosen to use a midfield two for the majority of this season since the formation change to a 3-4-3 back in October. During this time there have been five different players (seven including the now departed Oscar and John Obi Mikel) who have been used in these positions.
I have analysed and reviewed each of their overall performances this season below.
