Chelsea will spend most of the summer looking to add depth to their squad ahead of a season where they’ll look to defend their Premier League title and compete in the Champions League.
Employing a back three, Chelsea will need a number of centre-backs and with John Terry now gone, Kurt Zouma may have expected to see more playing time next season, but apparently not.
According to France Football (h/t GFFN ), OGC Nice have joined Marseille in the race to sign Zouma on a season-long loan.
Capped twice by France, Zouma’s season was delayed due to a knee injury he suffered last season which required a lengthy rehab but returned to make 14 appearances in the second half of the season.
With Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta the settled starting trio, Zouma has fallen behind Nathan Ake in the pecking order and Chelsea are expected to hand Andreas Christensen an opportunity in the first-team next season.
As both Ake and Christensen qualify as ‘home-grown’ players and will help meet the eight-man quota the Premier League enforces, Zouma is on the outside looking in and Chelsea want to send him out on loan to play some regular minutes before reassessing his situation next summer.
