Diego Costa has revealed to reporters that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte contacted him via text message to let him know that he is no longer wanted at the club.
Speaking after Spain’s 2-2 draw with Colombia on Wednesday night, Costa said:
I’m a Chelsea player, but they do not want me there. Antonio Conte has told me by message that I do not follow at Chelsea and that’s it. Conte said he did not count on me for next season. It’s a shame, I’ve already forwarded the message to Chelsea people to decide. But it is clear that the coach does not count on me and does not want me there. You have to find a team.
Costa was a major part of Chelsea’s title-winning side last year but his relationship with the manager became strained in January when the Spaniard apparently tried to force through a move to China.
As for the future, Costa has always made it clear that he’d prefer a move back to Atletico Madrid when he left Stamford Bridge but the La Liga side have a transfer ban in place so they couldn’t register him until February.
A move to China could still be on the cards for Costa, whilst some reports suggest that he could move to Italy.
